Spring!!
I feel like last spring was a lifetime ago. The world has gone through so much since last year and it seems that spring left us too quickly to enjoy.
Now here we are in the first few weeks of spring and maybe starting to feel more hopeful for the days ahead.
That’s how I’m feeling this spring. Ready to get back out into the sunshine and let hope warm my soul again.
Spring is a season of flourishing and growth. That includes you! It’s also a great time to set some goals, so by the time summer comes, you can feel great with all that you have accomplished.
If there are things you have put off, now is the time to tackle them!
Let’s talk about some ways you can have renewal in your life this spring and set some new goals!
1. Get organized!
I don’t want to waste one day inside while the sun is out after spending so much time indoors this past year. But there’s something about spring that makes me want to purge my closet and get rid of excess. My spirit feels lighter in the spring, and I want my home to feel the same also.
Time to make your home a refuge.
Take a room at a time, and go through those drawers and cabinets. Write your plan down so you will get it done, and feel good about seeing your progress. Even if it’s just a few cleanouts a week, your making progress.
I have 4 categories I stick to:
- Keep – Put a timeframe on it.
- Donate – Bless someone with what you can’t use or haven’t used. Call donation organizations to have items picked up and get them out of the house.
- Give Away – If you think friends or family could use it. If they say no, move it to donate. Don’t let it pile up again in your house. Again put a time frame on it.
- Throw Away – It’s time to go!!
I always keep a box in my garage, and a bag in my closet, that I continually add to for donation. That way it is always at the front of my mind and in front of my eyes!
2. Cook something new this spring
Have you been making the same meals over and over? Time to try something new! I follow a handful of food bloggers that I make lots of recipes from. I usually make 2-3 new recipes a week and if they are outstanding, they get put in my notebooks of 5-star recipes. I’m on binder #3 and it just keeps growing!
With spring comes more fruits and vegetables, grilling out, and lighter recipes. Check out some food bloggers and be challenged to get more creative in the kitchen this spring!
Choose a couple of recipes, get the items from the grocery store and make a meal plan. Build on that every week if you can and make your mealtime more exciting this spring!
3. Make your health a priority
Were you too sedentary this past winter? Spring is a great time to jumpstart your health and put some exercise into place. Aim for 150 minutes a week which is 30 minutes 5x a week. Or do it any way you can, but aim for the minutes.
You can build on that if your feeling really motivated, but 150 minutes a week is recommended by health professionals to keep you and your body healthy. Walking counts, so get out in the sunshine, and get your vitamin D. Not only will your mood lift, you might find your sleeping better, and some stubborn pounds will start to budge.
Set a goal for those minutes, and expand your cooking to include lots of springtime healthy foods, and you are on your way to a renewed you!
Don’t beat yourself up though if the exercise was just a little and you felt overwhelmed with the cooking, and the piles to donate are still sitting there. Just try again the next week and give yourself some grace in the process.
These are just a few suggestions to motivate you this spring. They can have a really positive impact though on you mentally and physically. Try one or try all three and feel good with what you accomplished! It’s a start and that’s what counts!
So get donating, cooking, and moving, and have the best spring ever!
Until next time,
