When fall temperatures start dropping, your skin will let you know it’s time to make some changes to your skincare.
Overnight you can see and feel little differences in your skin and on your body. Little tweaks can make all the difference in keeping your skin glowing and getting it ready for the colder winter months ahead.
Being outside more this summer because of all the closings, you might even have some increased pigmentation or dark spots on your skin that needs to be addressed.
Fall is a great time to start correcting any damage on your skin and bring back a healthy revitalized glow!
Think nourishing skincare for fall
Your skin will start needing more moisture with the cooler temperatures coming. Also as we start to age, the moisture in our skin really starts to deplete. Seriously, my skin drinks in moisturizers like water once it gets colder outside! Hormones come into play also which affects the moisture level in your skin. Keeping those skin cells hydrated inside and out will make a huge difference in how your skin looks and feels.
Let’s make some changes!
- Cleanser. The cleanser you were using in the summer after you sweated all day in the sun, is not what your skin in the fall needs. Just changing this product alone can make a big difference in how your skin feels. A creamy cleanser or hydrating gel-based cleanser will give you softer hydrated skin that’s not been stripped of all moisture. I tend to stay away from oil-free gel cleansers in the fall and winter and use cream-based only.
- Precleanse Oil Cleanser. This isn’t necessary but boy does it make a difference! You can use this on its own if your in a hurry and just want to get to bed. I use this type of cleanser in the evening BEFORE I cleanse with a regular cleanser and I love it! It’s a great way to remove make-up first and let all those wonderful oils nourish your skin. You won’t feel greasy, because these oils are usually water-soluble, meaning your skin will be cleansed beautifully and will rinse clean. Nothing to clog your skin here. If you have never started with an oil cleanser before your regular cleansing, give it a try. I swear you will love it!
- Toner. I always use one. It just makes such a difference and prepares your skin for your next products. Nothing harsh here. No stripping the pores of every bit of oil. Think of it as giving your skin a drink of water with botanicals, herbs, and everything that says moisture.
Now the magic!
- Serums. Here is where you can start doing some correcting. I always use one or two serums, depending on what I’m trying to correct. Fall time I usually start with a hyaluronic based product. It’s a moisture magnet for the skin and makes your moisturizer work even better. This is actually a product you can use all year long but for fall and winter, it’s a must. You can use another serum on top of that if your targeting aging or pigmentation. A good Vitamin C is nice during the day to target free radical damage and lighten dark spots. I always start with the lightest based serum first, then layer from there.
- Facial Oil. I love facial oils. I use them all year long, and try different ones, so my skin gets to experience all the different oils to heal, correct, and change my skin. 2-3 drops BEFORE a moisturizer is all you need. Pat it on. You don’t need to rub it in, just pat it all over the skin. Using a facial oil gives immediate results and I know you will love it if you give it a try. Rosehip, Argan, Sea Buckthorn are great, but there are so many to try now, that you have a lot of choices.
- Moisturizer. Go up a little in hydration here. Oil-free is nice for the summer if your a little oiler, but your skin will love a little extra moisture. Even oilier skins can be dehydrated meaning you will do fine with more moisture especially if you are seeing some signs of aging. Using facial oil before your moisturizer will honestly take your skin to a new level of amazing!
- Eye Cream. Always use an eye cream, morning and night. Keep your eye area, beautiful and young-looking every day.
What about the evening with your skincare?
- Precleanse. With an oil cleanser to remove makeup and oils from the skin, then use your regular cleanser afterward. If your too tired, this can be your cleanser for the evening. If you have make-up on though, I would then use your regular cleanser afterward.
- Toner. To hydrate and freshen the skin.
- Correcting Serum. Think of a retinol type of product. This will change your skin in amazing ways. Fewer wrinkles, and dark spots, and overall even tone and beauty. You can use a hyaluronic serum first, and then the retinol type of product. It acts as a little buffer for the retinol
- Facial Oil. You can mix a couple of drops into your moisturizer if you are using the retinol, or put it ON TOP of your moisturizer.
- Moisturizer. You don’t need a night cream. I have used them off and on, as well as necks creams, and really like them, but your daily moisturizer is fine if you want to keep it to a few products.
- Eye Cream. Always.
Don’t forget to exfoliate this fall
- Once or twice a week is all you need. GENTLE exfoliation. Nothing rough here. Removing the dead skin cells weekly will continue to bring a glow to your skin, and help you get better absorption of all the other products you use.
Tools for another level
- Guasha, Facial Reflexology, Dermaroller will give your skin amazing results! Try one or more this fall!
Ramp up your body care!
- Body Scrubs. Love, love them! If you want skin like a baby, exfoliate your body skin weekly. It not only removes dead skin cells but it’s incredibly healthy for your body. You will be stimulating lymph which gets rid of excess waste which is so good for you. It tightens and firms your body skin and lightens dark spots also. All that just by doing a body scrub!
With fall comes changes. The weather, the trees, the clothes, and even your skincare. Embrace this short season and love all the beauty that it offers, and keep your skin glowing!
Until next time,
