Essential Oils – Natures Medicine

April 24, 2019

I love essential oils!  I use them daily in my home and use them for personal use every day.

There is more to these oils though than just their aroma! They are powerful for wellness, all in a few drops.

They’re safe and when used correctly, are cost-effective and are a great way to support your overall health and can create a healthier home also.

How they work in your body

Each oil has its own medicinal properties.  They enter and leave the bloodstream efficiently, leaving no toxins behind.  Essential oils can stay in the body 3-6 hours. They go to work quickly and accomplish what they are designed to do.  They then leave the body through urine, feces, perspiration, and exhalation.

Oxygen and nutrients are supplied to the bodies tissues with the use of oils, while also helping with the disposal of carbon dioxide and other waste products produced by cell metabolism.  Pretty amazing isn’t it?!

What’s the best way to use essential oils?

Inhalation.  Diffusing.  Application.

Diffusing is one of my favorite ways to use oils.  There are many styles of diffusers to choose from now.  Different shapes and sizes and some have timers which I love!  They can work in any room.  Most diffusers have pads where you place an oil. Plug it in and your all set. Inhalation therapy at its best! Others you can place water in a dish provided, put a few drops of oil on top of the water, light a tealight candle under the dish. The water will evaporate into the air in a few hours leaving behind all the wonderful healing, relaxing, fragrances in your space.

Essential oils come in nice roll-ons also,  which make application fast and convenient.  I’m a big fan of these and have roll-ons with me all the time.  You never know when stress or a headache will sneak up on you!  Be ready with a roll on essential oil to treat it!  Synergy blends work great with these.  You’re getting the benefits of multiple oils combined.

Benefits galore!

  • Anti-bacterial.  Goodbye germs!
  • Anti-fungal.  Fungus on the toenail?  Tea tree oil works great for that!
  • Anti-viral.  Keep your home germ free!
  • Supports digestion.  A few drops on the tummy can leave you pain-free in minutes!
  • Reduces stress and anxiety.  Calmness is only a few drops away!
  • Alleviates aches and pain.  Works great if you have back pain!
  • Helps with headaches and migraines. Peppermint oil will be your new best friend.
  • Better sleep.  No more tossing and turning. Breathe in some lavender and go nighty nite.
  • Eliminate germs from the cold and flu.  Protect yourself and your home!

Word of caution

Oils are to be respected. They are powerful!!  I can’t stress this enough.  More is not better!  If the bottle says 1-2 drops, use only that.

To give you an example of how powerful they are, here is how strong they can be.  Oregano oil is 26 times more powerful as an antiseptic than phenol – which is an active ingredient in common commercial cleaners!  All in a few drops of oil!  So less is best.

*If pregnant, always check with your dr first before applying any oils.

What to look for when buying essential oils

  • Buy PURE essential oils.  If it has the word ‘fragrance, or aroma’ it’s synthetic.  Don’t waste your money on those.
  • Oils should be in brown or dark-colored glass bottles.

*Keep oils away from heat, light, and dampness.  Your bathroom is not a good place to store them.  Store them properly and they will last you a long time!

Essential oils should last about 2 years if stored properly. I use them up way before that!  Some oils come with an expiration date, so look for that as well.

How I use oils daily

  • I diffuse them every day.  The first thing I do in the morning is to start my diffuser.   I may diffuse a energy or uplifting oil in the kitchen, and in my workspace, I may diffuse something for focus, or clarity.
  • Before I go to bed, I diffuse something relaxing to help me wind down.
  • I use oils depending on my mood and how I’m feeling and what I need the oils to do for me that day.
  • If I’m feeling stressed, I will use a roller for anxiety or calming on my wrists and temples.  It works every time!
  • I sometimes put 1 drop of oil on a tissue and put it in my pillowcase if my mind is too busy at night. That’s the last thing I remember because it helps me to fall asleep that quick!

I hope you start experimenting with essential oils! They are so powerful for your health and well being.  Plus your family reaps the benefits as well.  You can create a sacred space in your home just by using essential oils.  If this is new for you,  start with just one or two for what you would like to address in your life, and add to your collection from there.  You will be amazed at the results that you will experience from natures medicine!

Until next time,

~pat
