Green tea is now considered the healthiest drink worldwide after water! It’s time to get your teapot out and start brewing this amazing tea!
What makes this tea so powerful over the other teas?
Let’s pull up a chair and learn about this tea and why you should start drinking it today!
One of the big differences with green tea is how the tea is processed. The leaves haven’t been fermented so they retain a higher level of antioxidants.
Green tea contains polyphenols, catechins, different flavonoids and a small amount of caffeine. All of these powerful antioxidants make green tea stand out for some major health benefits.
What are the benefits?
So glad you asked!! Hopefully, when you hear about them, you will be purchasing some green tea soon!
- Reduces the risk of developing heart disease
- Alzheimers (protects brain cells from free radical damage and may help with memory loss)
- Better bone density (as we age, this is super important in helping us to have strong bones)
- Preventative in eye disease and protects vision
- May help to prevent strokes
- May reduce hunger pangs
- Anti-aging ( anytime you are preventing free radical damage, that is helping with the aging of the skin)
Let’s get brewing!
- Use a tea bag or green tea leaves
- Don’t let the water come to a complete boil or be too hot. It can destroy some of the compounds in the tea.
- Pour hot water over tea bag or leaves and steep 1-3 minutes. Any longer and the tea can become bitter.
- Raw honey (my favorite – 1-tsp or less) or lemon juice can be added to the tea for an awesome cup of tea!
Now if you are a black tea drinker, that’s great also, but try experimenting with green tea to get maximum health benefits! Green tea has more antioxidants than black tea and lower amounts of caffeine.
How many cups to drink daily?
3 for maximum benefits, but I say any amount is good. I shoot for 2 a day but some days it’s only one. Your body is still getting wonderful health benefits.
How much caffeine is in 1 cup?
- Green tea -25-50mg (depends on the source of the tea)
- Black tea – 55mg or more
- Coffee – 100-120mg (that’s for 1 cup!)
If you haven’t tried green tea or you are just not a fan of it, try it again. Add the honey or lemon and see if that doesn’t make you change your mind! I always drink my tea hot, but try it cold! You might love it that way!
If you haven’t used that teapot in a while, get it out and enjoy a cup of relaxing green tea and get healthier in the process!
Until next time,
