Being an Esthetician I have spent many years in a dark room. The music is soft, the aromatherapy is soothing and my hands are creating an experience for the client for her skincare treatment. The dark….it felt comfortable….cozy….relaxing.
As the years passed though I longed to be in the light more. I didn’t always have a window in my treatment rooms, so that made the desire for light even stronger.
My days were long and busy and some days there just wasn’t much light. If I did have a break in my work day I would make a beeline for the outside just to look up at the sky and soak in the sun.
Aaaahhhh the light…it’s so healing for the soul. We need it to keep our bodies healthy, but our soul needs it for spiritual health as well.
Working in a facial chair for long hours required that I keep up with my body maintenance so I could do my job. A lot of times I would arrive for my treatment and the room would be so light. “Hey, I want it dark”, I would say to myself. “I want to relax.” Now I get it….the therapist needed light.
Why do we long for light?
Why do our souls crave it? Because God says we are the light. (Matthew 5:14) We are to be a light in the world. We are to carry His light inside of us and let it shine into a dark world that doesn’t even know they need God in their lives.
How can your life look different to others? You need to spend time with God… Let Him speak to your heart and mind… Let Him change you…transform the way you act and think….and expose any dark areas that need more of His light in your life. Every time you choose to make Him a priority, you get a little brighter.
We all have places in our hearts that could use some light penetration. Attitudes that are wrong, stubborn areas that we ignore. Words spoken to harshly. Judging others.
When Moses came down from Mount Sinai his face was radiant because He had been in the presence of the Lord. (Exodus 34:29) Aaron and the Israelites were even afraid to come near him because he was so radiant! Wow, that’s a powerful light! It was undeniable that Moses had been changed.
What do people see in you?
Light…. dark…. a little of both? I long to be a bright light for Him. For others to see less of me and more of Him, and I know you do too. We can be….. every day that we make time for Him and read His word we will be transformed. Those areas of struggle and sin will get weaker and you will see changes where you didn’t think it was possible. Darkness will have to flee when God starts shining His light in those hidden places.
It doesn’t matter how old you are ….God still wants to use you to be a light for Him in this world that so desperately needs Him. You could be the one light in your family or to your friends to bring them closer to God. They don’t even know why they feel drawn to you or seek you out……
It’s because of His light in you. God wants us to be a part of His kingdom work.
Even one little light has a lot of power in a dark area. It can light up a room, or bring hope to someone’s heart. (John 12:46)
So the next time, I get a treatment, and it’s a little too light…its ok!
Until next time, SHINE BRIGHT!
