Skincare changes with the seasons.
When the temperature is cooler outside, we feel it, and so does our skin. What we were using in the summer now feels too light.
The drop in humidity will change how our skin looks and feels, so we need to start preparing it for the season ahead.
How do you do that?
By changing your skincare routine, you can have hydrated, healthy skin that will glow with the changing season and beyond. With just a few tweaks, you will be loving your skin this fall.
Let’s talk about those changes and start seeing and feeling the results today!
Hydrating Cleanser
Using the same cleanser all year long can cause skin issues in the fall. Cooler temperatures call for more hydration in cleansing. There are some excellent oil-type cleansers that dry skin will love. Look for an oil or cream-based cleanser to prepare your skin for further hydrating products.
Add Serums
If you haven’t used a serum before, try one and be amazed at the changes you will see in your skin! Serums add another layer of hydration and help to lock in moisture. They are applied under your moisturizer. These are targeted products that have multiple anti-aging and correcting benefits. The power is in your serums!
You can use one in the morning and a different one at night. I like a Vitamin C or multi-blend anti-oxidant during the day and a retinol-type product in the evening. There are many choices for serums, so whatever your main skincare concern is, I promise there is a serum for it!
Change Your Moisturizer
The light or oil-free moisturizer you may have used in the warmer months may not be enough now. Switching to a richer moisturizer will leave your skin feeling much more comfortable. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides, which will lock in moisture and keep your skin hydrated for longer.
Facial Oil to the Rescue
I love facial oils! They improve your skin so much and leave it glowing. They seal in moisture and provide extra protection from the cooler weather outside and the low humidity inside. Jojoba and rosehip are light-feeling oils that hydrate deeply. Apply after your serum or use on top of your moisturizer to keep your skin glowing. This is a must to level up your skincare this fall.
SPF Always In Your Skincare
UV rays can still damage your skin, even in cooler weather. Protect your skin with at least an SPF of 30, and don’t forget your neck and upper chest, as these areas are thinner and can age much quicker than your face.
The added benefit of SPF that gets overlooked is that it helps protect your skin against blue light emitted from devices like phones and computers. People who work from home can visibly see more damage to their skin and wonder why since they aren’t outside as much. Bluelight damage penetrates deep into the skin layers, so use your SPF daily and make it part of your regular skincare all year long.
Exfoliate Gently
Exfoliating in the colder months is still vital for removing dead skin cells, but do so gently. Skin can become more sensitive in cooler weather, so gentleness is the key. Doing this once or twice a week will keep your skin glowing and help you benefit from all the nourishing products you use afterward. Don’t moisturize dead skin cells!
Don’t Forget Your Lips And Hands.
Use a lip balm with good ingredients to keep lips soft and hydrated. Ditch the chapstick, which makes your lips dryer over time. Look for balms with coconut oil, shea butter, etc. Organic would be even better. Make sure you use it before bed to soften your lips all night long.
Cooler weather can really dry hands! I keep multiple tubes of hand cream around my house to moisturize often. I moisturize throughout the day and use a heavier one at night before bed.
Also, don’t forget SPF on your hands during the day! I apply SPF whenever I leave my house and get in the car because my hands get so much exposure through the windshield while driving. Get in the habit of using SPF, and you will see a big difference in your hand texture and no age spots!
Nurture and protect your skin this fall as part of your self-care routine. With a few minor changes, you will be glowing all through this beautiful season.
Until next time,
