I love, love, love avocados!! When you hear how amazing they are for your health, you will see why you need to start loving them as well!
First, they are the perfect food for brain health. They have the highest fat protecting capacity of ANY fruit or vegetable!
Your brain needs fat!!
With dementia and Alzheimer’s on the rise, you can’t ignore feeding your brains more healthy fats. Avocados are one of the most powerful ways to feed your brain as a food source.
Let’s talk about why you need to start loving avocados today!
Avocado facts:
- They are a rich source of different types of Vitamin E
- Hello, fiber! 12 grams in a medium size avocado! That is so good for your gut health everyone!
- Ranks the highest in lutein, which is a powerful anti-oxidant. This will help to keep your eyes and skin healthy.
- Avocados are considered a fruit and not a vegetable!
- A powerful source of healthy fat for optimal health, especially brain health.
Ways to eat more avocados:
- GUACAMOLE! Yummy!! Anytime, anywhere!
- Cut up in salads. On tacos, burritos, as a side, with eggs, etc. and my favorite, avocado toast! I love it and have it often!
- Smoothies! Avocados will make your smoothies extra creamy. Use FROZEN avocado! Yes! Avocados can go bad pretty fast once they are ripe. Don’t throw these amazing fat sources away!! Cut your avocado in half, scoop it out, slice into chunks and freeze. Your smoothies will be extra smooth and you can’t taste it AT ALL! Feed your brain this healthy fat in the morning and you are off to clearer thinking and lots of energy!
Here is one of my favorite ways to eat avocado. I will have this for breakfast or sometimes as a mid-afternoon snack. I hope you give it a try!
Avocado Toast Recipe:
- One slice of organic grain bread. Toasted
- Mash 1/2 of an avocado and then spread onto the toast
- Squeeze some fresh lemon juice all over the avocado
- Top with pumpkin or hemp seeds
- Sprinkle some sea salt on top
- Drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil on top of it all for added healthy fat
- Say “Yummy”!!!
Be Safe:
Please, please don’t try to take out the avocado seed with a knife! The chefs on tv make it look so easy! Scoop it out with a spoon and keep all your fingers intact!
Next time you are at the grocery store, pick up some avocados. They have been more expensive lately, so if you see a good sale, stock up!! If they are ripe, cut them up and freeze them for future smoothies.
Every day try to get avocados into your diet. Shoot for a few times a week to start, if you haven’t been eating them on a regular basis. Your brain is going to be so healthy and happy because you did!!
Until next time,
