If you have dry skin you know what a challenge it can be! It’s always a battle keeping your skin moist and hydrated.
When the weather changes it gets even worse. It seems like whatever you put on your skin is just never enough. It can feel like your skin is a drinking machine! Always needing more moisture. Applying cream after cream only helps for a little while, and then you’re back to feeling dry again.
Can your skin be “nutritionally dry”?
Yes, if you have a bad lifestyle with food, love sugar too much, only have veggies once in a great while, and rarely take a supplement, chances are your skin is showing the effects of it.
Can you change your nutrition and it has a direct result on your dry skin? Yes!!
Let’s talk about change in the way we eat and change your skin in the process!
Food has the power to change your health and the texture of your skin
Vibrant glowing skin always starts with nutrition. Products are great, but you can’t cover up a poor diet. That inner glow just won’t be there. It’s easier than you think, but you have to take some steps to start.
Hydrate your dry skin with these foods
AVOCADOS – A staple for hydrated skin and also great for your brain! Try to incorporate some avocado daily into what you eat. That can start with a smoothie in the morning. Put 1/2 of an avocado into your smoothie to start. You won’t even taste it, and it will make your smoothie super creamy.
Avocado toast is also such a great way to start your day! Gives you energy and fuels your brain.
I freeze avocados before they go bad. Just scoop them out, slice in chunks, and freeze. You never have to waste an avocado again. Don’t forget salads. Dice avocado and top your salad with it. Snack on guacamole and let those good healthy fats hydrate your skin from within.
NUTS – High in Omega 3’s, nuts are a great way to increase your hydration level, and they are great brain food. Again you can throw them into a smoothie or eat a handful a day, or throw them in a salad. Keep individual packets of nuts in your purse so you have a healthy snack when you’re out.
OLIVE OIL – I cook my foods in olive oil when needed. I always measure it out. You only need a little bit to get all the great benefits! There is so much science and data on the health and beauty effects of olive oil. This is a great way to help hydrate your skin internally effortlessly!
FRUITS AND VEGGIES – Your skin will love these! They actually have a high water content, so they are great for your skin. All those nutrients in greens and fruits are where your skin changes into amazing! Smoothies, salads, sides, snacks, whatever it takes, get these in daily!
FISH – Don’t forget fish and all those Omega 3’s that love your skin. If your not a fish person make sure to supplement with a good quality Fish Oil.
Water and tea for ultimate hydration for your dry skin
Please drink water! Every one of your organs depends on it, and your skin is your largest organ, so it’s so important to become a good water drinker to have good health and hydrated skin. Get yourself a water container, or tall glass and start to keep track of your water intake daily. You will be amazed at how quickly your skin responds to more water and how much better you will feel also. If your skin looks wrinkled, water will help!
How much water? Whatever your body weight is, divide that in half, and that’s how many ounces of water you need daily. Be a sipper throughout the day and you will succeed at meeting your water goals.
TEA – Green tea loves your skin. From hydration to skin correcting, its power in a cup! I always drink organic so it’s minimally processed and the polyphenols and catechins aren’t affected. It does have caffeine, but a lot lower than coffee.
What is wrecking your skin and making it even drier?
SUGAR. It’s the enemy of your skin. It will age you by years and show up in a lot of different ways on your skin. Spots, pigmentation, wrinkles, dullness, breakouts, and increased dryness.
It’s in everything, so become consumer savvy! Learn to read ingredient labels and be prepared to be shocked! It’s easy to get 2-3 days of sugar in one day.
There are so many recipes now for yummy sweet treats that are a lot less in sugar to satisfy you when you want something sweet. Get creative in the kitchen and plan for your snack attacks!
Cutting back can really change your skin, and by making other positive food changes you can expect to see some wonderful changes in the hydration level of your skin.
