Our thoughts. The way we talk to ourselves in our minds with our words. It can be so destructive.
You may not even know you’re doing it. The words run through your mind so easily that it’s just the normal way of your thinking.
Every time these negative identity words come into your mind and they are allowed to hang around, they drive the stake deeper into your thought pattern.
Word by word they change your heart, they change your mind, and they change…you.
How can you think differently?
You need to expose these words for what they are. Lies. There is a question in the Bible that Jesus asks that is going to be what I believe…life changing for you and I hope gets you to think differently. When I came across it, it really made me think, and I have had to ask myself the same question at times. A shift took place in my thoughts and I believe it can for you also.
Heres the background story…
Adam and Eve are in the Garden of Eden and sin had entered the world by the deception of the enemy.
Genesis 2:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
He answered, “I heard you in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
And He said, “Who told you that?”
There it is….the question. “Who told you that?” Think about it for a minute. God didn’t point out the man’s sin and place a label on him. God didn’t heap shame on the man. The man in an instant was consumed with sin, with fear… and mostly with shame. Who told him these feelings? No one.
God gets to the point quickly and asks him the question that at times we need to ask ourselves.
Who have you listened to? What words have you labeled yourself with?
Have these thoughts entered your mind at one time or another?”What’s wrong with me”?! “Why can’t I do anything right?! “I’m not smart enough,” and the list goes on with the way you can judge and condemn yourself.
There’s only one true voice that you need to listen to. Not your friends, not your spouse, not your boss, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I love affirmations and love the people in my life who are kind enough to say them to me, but sometimes the voice in my head can be loud, telling me things that aren’t true. This is when we have to do a spirit check and go seek out the voice that speaks the truth in every area of our lives.
God has something to tell you about who you are. He knows you better than you know yourself. What does he want to say to you?
He wants to tell that you are His. That you are His precious child. You are chosen by Him. You are loved with an everlasting love that never ends. These aren’t just words. This is something to live your life by.
He has written a love letter to you telling you how special and amazing you are. How He knows how strong you are. When he looks at you He sees LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.
Negative thoughts will find their way into your mind at times. When they do, STOP and ask yourself the question, “Who told you that?”
Your heart can then respond, “Not you Lord”.
You can then stop those negative thoughts from going any further, and replace them with the truth. That has the power to change your circumstances and most importantly…your life.
Until next time,
