Have you ever thought about having a spiritual posture?
Is there such a thing? Yes, and with some practice, you can have this area in your life thriving!
Let’s talk about this subject and see how you can develop a deeper spiritual posture and be changed in the process.
Quiet Your Soul
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God”
In a perfect world, it would be nice to have quiet when we want to talk to God. To have a special space and the mood is just right. Nice music playing in the background and our Bibles opened. It would make us feel more holy right?
Life doesn’t always cooperate with our good intentions, but I’ve learned God can show up in the most unexpected places.
You can feel God’s presence just as powerfully driving in your car, as you can sitting still somewhere. It’s the posture of your heart that matters.
Creating a posture of quiet amidst the noise takes some practice, but oh how it can transform you. Just a few quick moments of quiet throughout your day, lifting up a prayer to God can calm and bring you peace in just a few minutes.
In the times of quiet, learn to listen. Sometimes God’s voice is the loudest in our spirit when we’re just able to get quiet.
Willingness
Psalm 40:8 “I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.”
Do you have good intentions wanting to spend time with God, to read your Bible, to pray, but again…life happens? God loves a willing heart. A heart that desires to seek Him. Having a posture of willingness will give you eyes to see where you can pray throughout your day no matter what’s going on in your life. It’s not about the place, but about your desire in wanting to spend time with Him.
Gratitude
Psalm 107:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever
Take the time to think about all that your grateful for. Write it down on paper and keep it nearby when your mood tanks. Just waking up and having breath is enough to start with. Every day is a new day to make a difference somehow. It’s easy to take life for granted and forget the gracious hand of God in our lives. Today practice having a posture of gratitude and see how your heart overflows with thankfulness. You will find your list getting longer when your heart is full of gratitude and thanksgiving.
Hands and Knees
Psalm 95:6-7 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care.
Sometimes you just have to worship. When God gets ahold of your heart, and you fully grasp all that he has done in your life, your hands and knees can be an expression of a spiritual posture.
God is holy, and our hearts should always have a reference for Him in His holiness. Then think about how He wants a relationship with you. When you truly internalize that truth, you can’t help but want to worship and praise Him! Sometimes no words are needed. Just lifting your hands or bowing your knees before Him is enough. That’s a beautiful spiritual posture.
Music
Psalm 108:1 My heart is steadfast, O’God. I will sing and make music with all my soul.
Beautiful music can be a motivator of worship. Put some music on and let your heart be carried into His presence. Worship and praise the one who calls you His daughter. and says you are loved.
Spiritual posture grows and develops over time….your faith roots go deeper and get more grounded every time you pray, read your Bible, and worship. Starting with any of these practices is a great place to grow in your walk with God.
I so hope this has given you something to think and pray about….to look for moments to quiet yourself and to lay your burdens before the Lord and to hear His voice, or to just listen. Think about all that you’re grateful for, and then ask Him to increase your desire to meet with Him daily.
Over time your spiritual posture will become stronger and be humbled at the same time, and you will never be the same.
Until next time,
