The world has a lot to say about aging.
How many times have you heard the lie, “That’s what happens when you get older, it’s all part of aging.”
It doesn’t sound very encouraging! In fact, it can sound downright depressing if you let that internalize into your heart and mind. It’s like saying, “It’s all downhill from here”, “Things are only going to get worse”. “Sickness and health issues are your destiny.”
I’m not living in a fantasy land of denial not accepting age and the changes that come with that, but I’m not going to tell myself lies that would squash all hopes and dreams, excitement, and renewal that is still possible for myself and all women no matter what the age is! Are you with me?!
Let’s talk about the lies that would steal your joys and hopes with aging, and replace them with truth and renewed possibilities for your future!
Lie #1 – “I’m too old to try that”.
This is a biggie and lots of women let this one sneak into their heads. It’s easy to resort to this lie because it lets you off the hook. Believing this lie limits so many amazing things you can still do! I find when we get older, we want to get to the other side of the hard thing fast and bypass all the stress. Believe me, I have been there, saying to myself “Why is this so hard?!” Usually, things of significance are! How can you be encouraged and hang in there when it’s tough?
Here’s the truth
What I have learned is the small steps result in more confidence. It spurs you on to the next thing and it keeps you going to reach that goal.
Yes, it might take a little longer, but when you put the effort in you will have a lot to be proud of. DON”T GIVE UP! Keep at it! Those dreams you have deep in your heart need to be taken out and immersed in hope. You have gifts given to you by God that the world needs to see and hear. You have wisdom that can be so impactful for others that can have eternal value. You’re not too old! Your voice needs to be heard!
Lie #2 – “This is what happens to your body when you start to age.”
It’s easy to throw up your hands and give into this one! Yep, hormones go wacky as we age, and gravity wants to have its way. Have you slacked off with eating right and exercising though? Have you have not challenged yourself physically in a really long time? No more excuses, you’re about to change this mindset!
Here’s the truth
You can change your body! It is never too late! Sure every year we lose some muscle with aging, but you can also gain new muscle no matter what your age! The good news is it doesn’t take a long time either. In a matter of weeks, you can actually see new muscle definition and more tone in those areas that your not liking. With that comes more strength which will serve you well as you age.
So pick up some light weights to start, and move those arms! Walk outside, or buy a DVD or stream an exercise class on tv and get moving. Your body loves movement! It doesn’t take a whole lot of time to see results!
Lie #3 – ” I have bad genes in my family.”
This lie can feel like a mountain on you, making you feel weighed down and that you have no control over your health. You just see a future of medications and reduced quality of life. This is what a lie does. Keeps you stuck in wrong thinking. Have you watched family members suffer debilitating health issues all the while thinking in the back of your mind “This will be someday”? Are you scared about your own future health?
Here’s the truth
Ok, I’m nipping this one in the bud! Your genes only have about 10% influence on your health. Everything else is a lifestyle. How you eat, sleep, how you control your stress, and if you are exercising your body and mind. That should be great news that gets you fired up to make some changes if you’re afraid of your future health!
Here it is in a nutshell:
- Sugar. Cut it out or reduce greatly how much sugar you consume. It wrecks your body and your brain and is addictive.
- Sleep. Make sleep non-negotiable. Go to bed at a decent time, and let your brain powerwash itself at night so you can have a healthier brain in the future.
- Food. Less meat, less dairy. Eat more real foods, and only buy things with ingredients that you know and can pronounce!
- Stress. Learn to quiet yourself a few times a day to calm your nerves and soul. Meditation and prayer have been proven to add years to your life!
- Exams. Stay on top of yearly preventative exams. It’s the responsible thing to do. Do it for you and for those who love you.
Lie #4 – ” I just look old and there is nothing I can really do about it.”
Do you look in the mirror and cringe? Are you noticing some new wrinkles, and that ugly word “jowls”, and it makes you feel unattractive? Again you resort to “I’m just getting old”, and you feel defeated in the process. Does aging make you feel hopeless with your skin and the way you look? You’re not looking for plastic surgery, you just want to be the best version of yourself that you can be. What can you do?
Here’s the truth
Being an esthetician I have some things to encourage you within skincare! You can get some amazing results at home with products and tools!
If you’re not using a retinoid product, START TODAY! It will refresh you, encourage new cell production, correct your skin, and give you a brighter, younger appearance. It’s the number one ingredient recommended by dermatologists to turn back the clock on aging and reduce wrinkles and correct damage on the skin.
There are so many tools that are affordable in the stores and online that will ramp up younger-looking skin. Here are a few of my favorites that only take a few minutes a week!
- Dermaroller. This is micro-needling and it’s amazing! Just a few times a week you can start to increase collagen with which will give you a tighter more lifted look.
- Guasha. A jade tool that lifts the muscles and moves the lymph. It depuffs and sculpts your face with continued use. The results can be seen immediately!
- Skin Buddy. A handheld light therapy unit using different light wavelengths to stimulate collagen and repair the skin on a deep level. Each cycle of light has a different function to target any skin concern you have!
Lie #5 – I don’t have a purpose
This lie hurts me for women, and so many women believe it. Have you resolved that you are somehow “done”? Do you feel washed up and just feel stuck. Have you lost your spark of new possibilities? Is one day just rolling into the next? Is this you? Has “someday” passed you by”?
Here’s the truth
You were chosen by God and appointed by Him from the beginning! He has equipped you with gifts that were tailored made for you alone. He has always had a plan for your life! Will you take a step and ask Him to reveal what that is, in this stage of your life? To be used for Him, to make an impact for His kingdom? As long as you have breath in your lungs, you have a purpose. Today put a stake in the ground with your thoughts and heart and BELIEVE IT!
The best is yet to come! No more lies! Take back the control with aging, and be strong, be healthy, be vibrant, and be one powerful amazing woman in this world and leave your mark!
Until next time, I’m trusting alongside with you,
