When was the last time you did skincare on your hands?
Are you only putting lotion on…sometimes?
The hands, just like the eyes are one of the first places to show signs of aging. The skin is thinner and has fewer oil glands, so its no wonder that you can start to see aging quicker.
Some people just have youthful beautiful hands. That’s not me! I can also be rough with my hands.
I would like to say I always wear gloves when I’m scrubbing a pot, but I don’t!
Being an esthetician and using my hands for so many years has made them strong, but not very youthful looking. Working out has only made my veins more prominent as well. So I have had to ramp up the care of my hands!!
It’s never too late! If you think your hands are beyond repair, it’s not. Let’s talk about things you can do on a daily and weekly basis so you can see some changes and you can feel better about this area!
Number one thing to use daily? – SPF
Most people are pretty good about applying sunscreen to their face. Moisturizers and make-up already have it included, so it makes it even easier to be protected without much thought to it. The hands? Somehow they get missed.
I started a routine a few years ago that has helped a lot with remembering to do this. When I’m done getting ready in the morning, the last thing I do is apply sunscreen on my hands before I start out for the day. You can then apply a lotion for extra hydration.
Keeping the SPF on the sink with my other products makes me remember that its part of my skincare routine.
I keep a small tube of SPF in my purse and reapply when needed. When I see my hands on the steering wheel of my car, and the sun is beating down on my them, its also a good reminder! We can spend a lot of time in the car. Our hands are getting all of that exposure on a daily cumulative basis. All that exposure adds up to spots and wrinkles.
I love body scrubs and do them on a regular basis. It’s easy to forget your hands when you’re doing a body scrub though! Make that the last thing you do. Removing the dead skin cells will refresh and brighten and it helps with dark spots also!
Lotion up! There are so many good hand creams on the market now. Some have SPF included which is great! I always look for one that has some extra type of anti-aging ingredients in it. That way just by applying hand lotion I’m getting some extra targeted treatment.
Treatment for your hands
This is easy! Whatever you’re doing to your face and neck, apply a little to the top of your hands! Serums for dark spots, vitamin c, hyaluronic acid, etc. They will LOVE the extra attention!!
Every other night I apply a retinol type of product to my hands. This has helped a lot! It also helps with keeping the cuticles from getting overgrown. Lines and that crepy look aren’t so apparent which makes me happy. If you’re using this type of product though, a daily SPF is so important. You don’t want to undo all that repairing by not applying an SPF.
Are you applying a weekly mask? Don’t forget your hands! They will look more hydrated, and softer afterwards!
Peels are great for the facial skin and can also work wonder on the hands! I like to use these type of products a couple of times a month, and I now treat my hands at the same time. You get an instant result!
There are dermatology procedures you can get for your hands now. Injectable fillers that smooth the skin so veins and fat loss are less apparent. I have seen before and after pictures and wow, it’s impressive!
Hope this helps you to think of some new ways you can treat your hands! It’s easy and quick and with consistency, you will really see some nice improvement!
Until next time,
