We often think of our physical health by taking vitamins or trying to make healthier food choices but are you paying attention to your spiritual health as well? Your body will let you know when you need to pay attention by giving you warning signs that things aren’t right. Your soul does the same thing but often goes ignored.
Having balance in both physical and spiritual health is crucial to being the best you. Often times, one area is lacking and depleted and feeling balance is hard to come by.
Today let’s talk about how you can nurture your soul with some practices that will bring life and health back to who you are internally.
God’s Word: Your soul is thirsty and hungry
Water and food is life to our bodies and God’s Word is life to our soul. You wouldn’t think of going days without drinking water or eating to hydrate and fuel your body, but we sometimes go days or much longer without nourishing our souls. Getting into God’s Word is put on the back burner because well, “we are busy and we don’t have the time”.
Oh, if you only realized that no time is wasted in God’s Word. He can take a sentence and aim it straight to your heart and start to fill you up. Where there are parched, dry unfeeling areas He can start a flow of living water where softening and growth begins.
Just like we need water and food daily, your souls need the nourishment of His Word daily. A simple place to start (if this is new for you) is in Proverbs. There are 31 Proverbs so you could do one daily. A simple devotional with a scripture verse for the day to ponder on is also a great place to start. One day at a time. One spiritual meal at a time.
If you are in God’s Word on a regular basis I encourage you to go deeper. Dive into the ocean of His Word and be drenched and fed.
Prayer: Your soul needs relationship
You need relationships in your life to be healthy and so does your soul. Prayer nurtures your relationship with God. It’s how you communicate with Him and how He speaks to your heart. You wouldn’t talk to the people in your lives randomly, or not at all, because that wouldn’t be considered a relationship. To get to know someone you have to talk to them.
Communication is an ongoing process throughout the day. The Bible says to “pray without ceasing”. (1 Thessalonians 5:17) What does that mean, really?
Not letting your thoughts or heart get too far from God. You can pray anywhere and everywhere. God is always listening for your voice.
How do you know if you need spiritual vitamins?
Are you hopeless, anxious, worried, joyless or just plain tired of nothing changing? You need to take your two vitamins for your soul. God’s Word and Prayer.
Try it for a week or two and see if you don’t feel better, think differently, and feel more grounded and whole.
Bring health back to your soul by feeding on His Word and prayer. Day by day, you will feel a change in your spirit and you will crave more of the soul nourishment that only God can provide.
Until next time,
