John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Hard times have a way of stealing the light in your life. Everything just feels dark.
We have all been there; we definitely don’t want to stay there, but it seems hard to find a way out.
“Where is the light”?
It seems unattainable when the darkness is so overwhelming.
Through many hard times, I’ve learned that the light has never left. Sometimes, though, we have to go looking for it or acknowledge that it’s there. I call these “pinholes of light.” Little glimpses of light I can choose to see or not to see. Pinholes are so small that only a little light can be seen through the darkness. But sometimes that’s all we need to give us some hope.
In John 15:5, this verse says that Jesus is the light, and when His presence shines in the darkness, nothing can put out that light. Not the darkest thing you are going through. His love will always break through.
But sometimes it’s just a small pinhole. And now I hang on to those tight.
What does that look like?

It’s the scripture verse that brings hope to your heart and mind. It’s an unexpected answered prayer, or a friend or family member who had the exact words you needed to hear. It’s feeling God’s presence in a real and personal way. Feeling peace when there shouldn’t be peace.
These are all pinholes of light breaking through.
And over time, when there are so many breakthroughs, the darkness isn’t so dark, because Jesus is overcoming it, just like He said He would.
I’m so grateful for this verse and the power and promise that it holds.
If that’s you, hold on tight. The darkness won’t last forever. It can’t, because Jesus says HE WILL overcome it. He WILL break through the darkness.
But it might start small with just that little pinhole. But that’s a start, and that’s enough.
Keep looking for His light. It will always be there for you.
Until next time,
